David Stevenson is currently the GM of the China project for the Australian Football League where he led the AFL, Port Adelaide and Gold Coast teams to play a regular season game in Shanghai on May 14th, 2017.
This was the first regular season game for the AFL outside Australia / New Zealand and the first major sporting code around the world to play a regular season game in China. The game sold out in under 2 hours, was the largest AFL broadcast audience in history, 30%+ local Chinese attended the game, 90% of the sponsorship revenue generated was new to the industry, 3 Chinese free to air TV broadcast partnerships were secured (including CCTV) and universal support from the players and clubs for the experience.
Previous to this role he was the CEO of the Western Bulldogs where the club broke a 62 year premiership drought to win the AFL and VFL premierships with the women’s team unbeaten and broke almost every off field club record. He took on this role after moving back to Australia with his young family after a 17 year career at Nike which started at the shop floor and progressed to his last role as a Vice President / General Manager of a $5b business across 156 countries. This included living and working in 4 countries including 3 years in China leading Nike’s commercial business and 2 years in Hong Kong in an Asia Pacific role
